Kybella is an injectable treatment containing synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a substance that helps break down dietary fat in the body.

When injected into the submental fat beneath the chin by a trained provider, Kybella destroys targeted fat cells in the treated area. The body gradually clears the treated cells over time.

Kybella is intended for selected adults with moderate to severe fullness beneath the chin. It is not a weight-loss treatment, skin-tightening treatment, or replacement for surgery.

Kybella works by physically disrupting targeted fat cells in the treated submental area. Because the treatment affects tissue in the injection area, careful placement and dosing are important.

Your provider will mark the treatment area and use a planned injection pattern. The number of injections and sessions depends on your anatomy, amount of submental fullness, treatment goals, and response.
