Juvederm® Ultra/Ultra Plus XC

Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC are injectable hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body that helps support hydration and volume in the skin.

When placed by a trained provider, these fillers can add temporary volume and soften selected wrinkles or folds. Product choice, placement, and amount depend on your anatomy, treatment area, skin quality, and goals.

Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC are not interchangeable with every filler in the Juvéderm collection. Each product has its own approved uses, texture, placement considerations, and risk profile.

A Juvéderm treatment session begins with a review of the treatment plan and consent. Your provider will cleanse the treatment area and may use topical numbing or other comfort measures when appropriate.

The filler is then placed using a needle or cannula, depending on the area, anatomy, and provider technique. The number of injections and amount of product used vary by patient.

You may feel pressure, pinching, or brief discomfort during injection. Swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, or firmness can occur afterward.

Treatment is usually completed during an office visit, but the exact timing depends on the number of areas being treated.

You may be a candidate for Juvéderm Ultra XC or Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC if you are an adult seeking correction of selected facial wrinkles, folds, or volume-related concerns and your provider determines that filler treatment is appropriate.

Juvéderm treatment may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection near the treatment area, have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis, are allergic to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid fillers, or have certain bleeding, immune, or skin conditions.

Your provider will also review prior filler treatments, medical conditions, current medications, supplements, and any history of cold sores or inflammatory skin conditions before making a recommendation.

During your Juvéderm consultation at Vitalé, your provider will ask about your goals, prior treatments, medical history, allergies, medications, supplements, and any previous reaction to injectable treatments.

Your injector will assess your facial anatomy, skin quality, movement, volume distribution, and the areas you want to address.

Your provider will explain:

After treatment, most patients return to normal daily activities, but swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, firmness, itching, lumps, or discoloration can occur.

Your provider may advise you to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area unless instructed, avoid intense heat or strenuous activity for a short period, and follow any treatment-specific instructions given at your visit.

Do not stop prescription medications, including blood thinners, unless the prescribing clinician tells you to do so.

Some results may be visible soon after treatment, but swelling can affect the early appearance. The final look is usually assessed after the area has settled.

Results are temporary and vary by patient, product, amount used, treatment area, metabolism, and lifestyle factors. Maintenance treatment may be discussed during follow-up.

Juvéderm treatments are usually well tolerated, but side effects can occur. Common effects include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, pain, bruising, firmness, lumps, bumps, discoloration, or itching at the treatment site.

Less common risks include infection, allergic reaction, delayed swelling, nodules, asymmetry, poor cosmetic outcome, skin discoloration, or prolonged firmness.

Rare but serious complications can occur if filler enters or blocks a blood vessel. This can cause tissue injury, skin necrosis, vision changes, blindness, stroke, or other serious complications.

Seek urgent medical care if you develop severe or unusual pain, skin blanching or discoloration, vision changes, weakness, trouble speaking, facial drooping, severe headache, or other concerning symptoms after treatment.

Your provider will review risks, alternatives, and aftercare before treatment. Filler treatment should only be performed by a trained medical provider using appropriate products and technique.
