Belotero Balance® (+)

Belotero, a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, integrates seamlessly into the skin to treat moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles, such as those around the lips.

Belotero has been FDA-approved since 2011. Made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in your skin that attracts water, it plumps things up to reduce those unwanted wrinkles. It’s best for moderate to deep wrinkles and works relatively quickly to give you a smoother appearance.

While Belotero offers a whole family of fillers used elsewhere in the world, Belotero Balance® (+) is the only one FDA-approved in the US to smooth out moderate to deep wrinkles for adults over 21. It is even approved to tackle those pesky under-eye hollows, according to the FDA, resulting in a more refreshed and awake appearance.

Belotero Balance has a soft, gel-like consistency, with hyaluronic acid that binds with water in your skin to fill lines and wrinkles subtly. This unique filler blends seamlessly into your skin, giving you a natural-looking glow. Unlike some fillers, it won’t restrict your expressions or feel unnatural to the touch.

Belotero, Juvéderm, Restylane, and Sculptra are not interchangeable products. They differ in formulation, texture, treatment purpose, depth of placement, expected duration, and the areas for which they may be appropriate.

Belotero is often considered when a softer hyaluronic acid filler is needed for selected lines, folds, or under-eye hollowing. Juvéderm and Restylane products may be used for other facial volume or contouring concerns, depending on the specific product. Sculptra works differently and is used to stimulate collagen over time rather than provide immediate hyaluronic acid filling.

Your provider will recommend a product based on your anatomy, goals, medical history, and the treatment area.

Belotero Balance is FDA-approved for correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Belotero Balance (+) is also FDA-approved for improvement of infraorbital hollowing in adults over 21.

Depending on your anatomy and goals, providers may also discuss off-label use in selected areas. Off-label use means the product may be used by trained injectors for an area that is not specifically included in the FDA-approved indication.

During your consultation, your provider will explain which areas may be appropriate, whether the use is FDA-approved or off-label, and what risks and alternatives should be considered.

Before treatment, your provider will review your medical history, allergies, prior filler treatments, current medications, supplements, and any history of cold sores, bleeding disorders, or inflammatory skin conditions.

Tell your provider if you take blood thinners, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, supplements, or any medication prescribed by another clinician. Do not stop prescribed medication unless the prescribing clinician tells you to do so.

Your provider may give you specific pre-treatment instructions based on your health history and planned treatment area.

Belotero is a quick and simple procedure that uses a fine-gauge needle for a series of injections targeting wrinkles. The whole process takes 15 minutes to an hour, sometimes requiring touch-ups.

Most Belotero products contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that minimizes injection pain. If you’re worried about discomfort, ask your provider about using a topical numbing agent before the procedure.

Your injector may gently massage the area to spread the filler for a natural look. The number of syringes used depends on your treatment plan.

Belotero might be a great option if you’re looking to smooth out facial wrinkles. It’s commonly used for frown lines, forehead wrinkles, laugh and smile lines, and crow’s feet. As many dermal fillers are available, it’s best to consult an experienced injector to determine the most suitable solution to address your concerns.

While it’s safe and effective for most people, it isn’t for everyone. According to Belotero, if you have a history of bad allergies, including anaphylactic reactions, you may want to avoid Belotero Balance. It’s also not a good fit if you’re allergic to certain proteins which can be found in some bacteria. Before considering Bolotero Balance, please inform your aesthetic professional about any allergies you have.

Belotero injections are usually well tolerated, but discomfort, tenderness, swelling, redness, bruising, firmness, itching, or lumps can occur at the injection site. These effects are often temporary, but duration varies by patient and treatment area.

More serious complications are uncommon but possible. Dermal fillers can cause infection, allergic reaction, delayed swelling, nodules, skin discoloration, poor cosmetic outcome, or asymmetry.

Rarely, filler can enter or block a blood vessel. This can lead to tissue injury, skin necrosis, vision changes, blindness, stroke, or other serious complications. Seek urgent medical care if you experience severe pain, skin color changes, vision symptoms, weakness, trouble speaking, or other concerning symptoms after treatment.
